Today’s shaping up to be a busy day. We have our Pennsylvania Primary Election so I need to run to the polls this morning.
Earth Day Poster Contest
Also, Earth Day is today. For Earth Day, we held a poster contest. The poster theme was endangered animals. The kids made some terrific posters and we hung them in the entrance for everyone to see. Our leadership team judged the posters and we will post the winners today.
Watch your Training Grow
As part of Earth Day, we are starting a project called “Watch your training grow!” I got this idea in an old e-mail from my friend, Sensei Dan Rominski from Olympic Karate in East Rutherford. The students will each plant a seed (Sunflower, Corn, or Green Beans) and label their pot. They will be responsible to water and tend their plant each class.
The plant represents their growth in karate training. The students will learn how like the seed to nurture their training to growth and learn about positive or negative consequences of attendance. With regular attendance, they can regularly water their plant to grow or if they miss class, their plant and karate training will suffer.
Like their karate training, the plants will teach them focus, discipline, perseverance, patience, and empathy. To qualify for their May stripe, their plant will need to grow. At the end of the month, they can take the plant home and continue to watch it grow.
