Cracking Black Walnuts

A few weeks ago, I collected some Black Walnuts. Black Walnuts are a tough nut to crack and you can't do it with a traditional nut cracker.

I take a brick and hammer to open them up. Some videos I see on cracking walnuts, they crack it from the top and use a wire snip to free the walnut. This is great if you want whole walnuts but it takes alot of time.

Personally, I am more concerned about speed so I don't mind getting a chopped nut end result. I crack the nut from the side for faster results. You want to gently tap the shell until it cracks and then extract the nut.

After I crack all the walnuts, I rinse them three times in the kitchen sink. I finish them by placing them in the dehydrator at 105°F.

Walnuts are a great nutritional snack. I like to add them to smoothies along with fruits and vegetables. Thanks for the tips.
